Copy GTX files from another GTX installation

This feature is included as a convenience for clients that have a second copy of WinlineGTX on a network, to enable them to reliably and correctly copy GTX data files from one computer to another.

It is also used by those who are installing GTX on a new computer and want the new copy of GTX to be exactly the same as the original installation. In this situation, GTX would be installed and registered, and then relevant files would be copied from the original GTX.

The Copy files from another installation… feature must be activated on the computer which will receive the files from the originating, or source, computer. For example, you would use the ‘Copy’ feature on your laptop to transfer the GTX files from your PC to your laptop.

On the Menu Bar, click on Program>Copy which opens the Copy files from another installation… box. On the first use of this feature, click the Browse button to locate and click on the <GTX.exe> file on the sending, or source, computer. Once that path appears in the text box, you then select a date range that covers the historical meeting/race files on your computer, select the overwrite existing files checkbox, select checkboxes as needed in the program files… and database files… sections, then click the Copy button.

Those of you who want the newer installation of GTX to be identical to the original installation would need to use the ‘Copy’ feature before any configuration of the new GTX, or before any database files were created. Also, you would find it more convenient to select all checkboxes rather than trying to work out which options are related to your installation.

Once all the options are selected, click the Copy button.

Once the transfer is complete, it would be wise to backup all databases, as the database backups are not copied from the originating computer, although the databases themselves are.

This is easily done. On the Menu Bar, click on Program>Database Backup. In the box that opens, select the relevant databases and click the Backup button.
